Memmingen, 2 November 2018 – ACM Aircraft Cabin Modification GmbH having to expand at the start of 2019 despite new development plans. The strong growth seen across all business areas has led to an acute lack of space. The company will now be renting an additional 3000 square metres at the former site in order to temporarily meet the necessary space requirements. However, the shortage of skilled workers remains a challenge. 

A few months ago, ACM Aircraft Cabin Modification GmbH announced its intentions to purchase a plot of land with an area of almost 15,000 square metres on the Memmingen airport grounds, with a view to using this site for the construction of a new building. As a specialist in complete cabin interiors, ACM wanted to take this step, in order to make its workflows more efficient, as this would mean that aircraft could be driven straight into the hall for conversions.

New development plans revised
“The already very positive order situation has continued to improve so much over the last few months that we are unable to wait until completion of the new building before expanding our business”, explains ACM Managing Director Roger Hohl. “Luckily, space has become available at our former site, and we are able to rent this space on a short-term basis”. The additional 3000 square metres mean that the current space requirements can be met for the time being. The new area will be divided up evenly into a production area, a high-bay warehouse and a goods delivery area. ACM’s current business expansion marks only a minor change from the new development plans at Memmingen airport, with only the building planning being modified as a result of the strong growth.

Not only does ACM Aircraft Cabin Modification GmbH urgently require additional space, additional personnel are also needed. The company, which currently employees 120 employees at the Memmingen site, is looking to hire upholsterers, interior designers, tailors, PMO professionals, developers, designers, engineers, trainees and others within the production and office-based business areas. The majority of the employees and major suppliers are all local to the region. Therefore, ACM, with its company headquarters in Memmingen, will once again contribute to regional value creation and the strengthening of Swabia as a business location.

Memmingen/Dresden, 14th August 2018 – In the last twelve months, ACM Aircraft Cabin Modification GmbH, alongside Elbe Flugzeugwerke GmbH (EFW), have developed the most comfortable and largest flight crew rest compartments in cargo aircraft to date. These new rest areas have a modular structure and optimise the recovery phases of pilots on long-haul flights. This new development will be installed for the first time in a converted Airbus A330-200 during the course of the year. 

Since the permitted working hours of the flight personnel are exceeded on long-haul flights with extremely long flight times, the crew rest compartments offer the ideal resting place for the on-board staff. This makes it easy to comply with the legal regulations relating to service and recovery times, which naturally has a positive impact on aviation safety and the efficiency of airlines.

Two specialists – one objective
Two companies who are absolute specialists in their fields have now joined forces in the form of ACM Aircraft Cabin Modification GmbH from Memmingen and EFW from Dresden. While EFW converts Airbus passenger aircraft into cargo aircraft, ACM is responsible for the entire cabin interior. “The two companies have therefore set themselves the objective of developing not only the largest and most comfortable flight crew rest compartment, but also one that is multi-purpose in its deployment,” explains ACM Managing Director Roger Hohl. Comfortable mattresses, sound-absorbing and light-impermeable curtains and an appealing design concept ensure optimum relaxation and privacy for crew members.

One-year development time
The new development is installed directly behind the cockpit and can accommodate two people. The upper bed can also be easily converted into storage space with two nets – a world first. A special protective cover is used to protect the mattresses against dirt, wear and moisture. “The development of the new flight crew rest compartment took a total of twelve months due to its complexity. We are very satisfied with the outcome. The new product is not only modular, but also easy to install and remove,” says Roger Hohl, who also praises the outstanding cooperation with EFW.

Memmingen (GE) / Addis Ababa (ET), 11th July 2018 – ACM Aircraft Cabin Modification GmbH is entering into a manufacture and supply partnership with Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest airline. In future, seat covers, seat belts and carpets will be manufactured in Ethiopia in accordance with EASA European aviation quality standards and supplied to the ACM production line.

ACM Aircraft Cabin Modification GmbH is entering into a production and supply partnership with Ethiopian Airlines for the manufacture of seat covers, seat belts, carpets and other cabin equipment. “We are pleased to be entering into a strong partnership with the Ethiopian Airlines Group and expanding with cabin equipment made in Ethiopia. In doing this, we are also supporting the country’s development programme. I am extremely proud to be cooperating at a high quality level with Africa’s largest airline. I am certain that this represents a major step forwards,” said delighted ACM Managing Partner Arash Noshari.

One hundred new jobs
The new production facility in Ethiopia will naturally meet the strict requirements of the EASA European aviation authorities. Over 100 new jobs will be created in the process. “We are therefore not only creating over 100 new jobs in Ethiopia, but also transferring expertise in order to certify the local employees or rather, the new production facility, in accordance with European standards. As a consequence, this is the first time that ACM is also acting as a training organisation,” explains Roger Hohl, Managing Director of ACM.

Initially, the cabin equipment will be manufactured with imported raw materials. The objective, however, is to certify leather and materials made in Ethiopia for the demanding production process in the near future and, subsequently, continue to build up and develop the country’s textile and leather industry. “In accordance with our government’s industrialisation policy, we are working together with aircraft manufacturers and suppliers to the aerospace industry in order to be able to develop a wide range of products for the aerospace industry. The partnership with ACM Aerospace is a huge milestone for us in this respect,” explains Tewolde GebreMariam, CEO of the Ethiopian Airlines Group.

This investment by ACM shows a clear commitment to the region that will not only create jobs, but also increase regional value creation.

Aircraft Cabin Modification GmbH, currently based in Memmingen with 120 members of staff, has signed a declaration of intent with Allgäu Airport GmbH & Co. KG. The plan is to buy almost 15,000 square metres of land within the airfield. “As complete cabin interior specialists for aircraft and helicopters, this move clearly shows our commitment to the continued development of our core competencies in the market,” explains ACM Managing Director Roger Hohl enthusiastically. “The exact nature and type of buildings we will have on the site are currently under intense discussion. But one thing is clear: ACM’s presence in Memmingen will be relocated entirely to the airport. We will not be operating multiple sites.”

Speeding up checks
The time crew members spend walking up and down the aisles before take-off and landing and in the case of turbulence to check whether passengers have fastened their seat belts will be revolutionised with the “Smart Belt”. 27th June 2017 – Aircraft Cabin Modification GmbH (ACM) is developing and constructing the cockpit and cabin for Dornier’s new flagship, the Seastar CD2 amphibious aircraft. This order marks a new milestone in the history of ACM. The company, which up to now specialised only in cabin interiors, is for the first time developing both the cockpit and the cabin for a new aircraft.

Dornier Seawings is presenting the latest generation of amphibious aircraft – the Seastar CD2 – which sets new standards in the areas of speed, range, safety, cabin size and low maintenance costs. Some well-known figures have also placed pre-orders for the new two-engine aircraft that can be used anywhere thanks to its ability to land on both land and water.

The highest quality cockpit and cabin
“Being able to develop and build the cockpit as well as the cabin for an aircraft prototype like the new Seastar is something very special for ACM”, says ACM managing director Roger Hohl enthusiastically. “For the first time in the history of our company, we are responsible for more than providing a comfortable and exclusive cabin interior, we are also providing the cockpit.” It will be fitted out with the latest ‘state of the art’ future-proof fittings.

On-site mobile workshop
The Seastar is currently in the prototype stage. The engineers from ACM and Dornier are therefore working together to develop a mock-up for the roll-out. This mock-up is like a 1:1 scale model of the cockpit and the cabin. ACM is carrying out this work with their mobile workshop unit at Dornier’s site at the special Oberpfaffenhofen airport. “The work we are putting into everything from development, design, and choice of materials, through to effective construction, is an exciting challenge as we are presented with questions such as where is the best place to attach a ship’s anchor to the aircraft”, explains Roger Hohl. The multi-national team is pursuing the goal of ensuring that the new version of the Seastar will make Dornier the leading provider in the aero-marine sector. The two-engine aircraft offers space for up to twelve people and has a maximum speed of 300 km/h with a range of 1,600 km.

3rd of February 2017 – ACM Aircraft Cabin Modification GmbH renews the entire cabin interior of a private jet owned by a businessman from the Middle East. The airplane type Bombardier Challenger 604 has been completely overhauled in six weeks with a total number of six ACM staff and offers comfort at the highest level.

The luxury private jet has been stationed in Oberpfaffenhofen Germany at RUAG over the past few weeks as part of extensive maintenance work. At the same time the complete interior was renewed. ACM – Aircraft Cabin Modification GmbH based in Memmingen Germany carried out the fabulous work. The company specialises in the development, production and overhaul of entire cabin interiors. A total of six ACM professionals were in action for six weeks to satisfy the customer’s demands from the Middle East. ACM offered an incomparable all around service – from prototyping to development, sampling, production to installation.

High- quality materials
In order to comply with the strict maintenance schedule for the Bombardier Challenger 604, the cabin parts were demounted in Oberpfaffenhofen and transferred to Memmingen where the ACM staff overhauled it. Afterwards the cabin parts were reinstalled on the RUAG site again. For the new cabin equipment, ACM strictly used high quality materials made of high-quality leather, artificial leather and upholstery fabrics. New covers and seat cushions made of ultralight foams ensure the best possible seat comfort in the private jet. However, cabin components such as wall linings also contribute to the overall design. “Thanks to many years of experience and our excellent team, we can easily implement individual demands of our customers,” says the new ACM Managing Director Roger Hohl.

1st February 2017 – ACM Aircraft Cabin Modification GmbH appoints a new Managing Director from the 1st of February 2017. Roger Hohl, a highly experienced former Managing Director of the local airline InterSky and former member of the ACM Management board for the commercial sector, is the ideal person for this position. The 32-year-old Swiss will continue to lead the successful international aviation supplier ACM together with Managing Partner Arash Noshari.

Always a preference for the aviation industry
Roger Hohl originally comes from Zurich and currently lives in Eastern Switzerland. After graduating in logistics with the subject area Supply Chain Solutions, Roger Hohl initially worked for a logistic service provider at the Zurich Airport before changing to the Austrian airline InterSky. After undergoing various intermediary stations in the commercial, strategic as well as operational areas within the airline, he also successfully filled the positions as a Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) and the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO). Roger Hohl was then named the world’s youngest Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of an airline. He has been working as a member of the management board for ACM Aircraft Cabin Modification GmbH for over one year since and continues his impressive career as the Managing Director.
